Happy May Day!
We made May baskets out of aluminum foil and clean bean cans. This was a great year for flowers for May baskets - we had lots of tulips, grape hyacinth, catmint, bleeding heart, a few tiny daffodils and some little yellow flower that I do not know the name of but that made a great filler.
Amelia took May baskets to her teachers at preschool, and even told them "Happy May Day!" (She is sometimes too shy to talk to them.) The teachers were very excited about the flowers, and quite a few of the other moms during dropoff commented that they were pretty may baskets (I wasn't sure anyone would know about the tradition anymore). The teachers had even had set up a maypole to dance around during large motor, so the flowers fit in perfectly with their theme today.
While Amelia and I were deciding which flowers to pick from my different gardens, Megan was following along behind us. Unbeknownst to me, she was also picking flowers. She managed to pick 4 huge tulips and an entire patch of grape hyacinths before I noticed what she was doing and stopped her. She wanted to make her own bouquet, and did not want me to take them away to put them in a cup of water!
